As a woman who has identified as visibly plus size for the majority of my life, I have sometimes struggled to embrace and accept my body for the amazing things it does for me. Instead I listened to the media and constantly struggled with my diet, which lead to eating disorders. With the help of the body positive community I have finally been able to look at myself and accept… and love the person that I am. It has been a massive struggle to get here but I am finally happier than I have ever been. I am confident and as a result I am finding my own person style again rather than listening to all the rules of what I should and shouldn’t wear, how I should behave and more importantly, how I should look.
When I first started my body positive journey, I read an article stating that children under the age of 11 in America were more afraid of becoming fat than they were of losing one or even both of their parents! How can we live in a world where the generations to come are so caught up in the media shit storm of diet culture that they are more concerned by appearance than losing the ones they love?
As you can imagine, this lit a fire under my ass and made me determined to change my mentality and try to make a change in the world. Now I don’t have children of my own but I do have nephews and god children and I would hate to think of them struggling with their bodies the way that I did so because of them I was able to find even more importance in embracing who am I… warts and all.
I am a firm believer that we are the ones who shape the future of today’s children and in order to make a change in them, we first need to start with ourselves… So, I have created a body positivity workbook that is free to download. All you need to do is sign up to my mailing list and you will receive it via email.
The workbook focuses on the following topics:
- How you see yourself
- How you are seen by others
- How you are affected by the media
- Your motivation to look a certain way
- Your body positive action plan
Once you have the workbook all you need to do is print it out, make yourself a nice drink, find somewhere cosy to sit and fill it out… remember to be as honest as you can and don’t try to think about the answers too much, go with whatever comes in to your head first.
I have designed the workbook to give you an insight into what makes you feel the way you do about your body and what you can do to maintain an environment where you can feel better about yourself. Obviously you can’t change outside factors like ignorant people with their own insecurities but there is a lot that you can do for yourself to help you on your journey.
If you download the workbook, please let me know in the comment how it worked for you so I can improve it or add to it in the future.
