I’m not really sure why this would be something that you would be interested in because… well, my life is pretty boring on the whole. But…
I’ve seen a few bloggers detailing their daily routine and thought it might be quite fun to do. So here is my version of a day in the life of a part-time lifestyle blogger…
I cannot really explain how much I hate getting up in a morning. That said… in my house, I can guarantee that despite my protests I am always the first one out of bed. I stumble out of bed in a zombified state. Like I said, I am not a morning person! Take 15 minutes to freshen up and grab a shower before waking the other half and heading downstairs.
This is Keo’s favourite time of the day because he gets to go into the garden and then eat his breakfast. While he is eating I put the kettle on to make a brew, prepare breakfast, usually porridge and then make the lunches.
Back upstairs I go. I put on my face and get myself dressed for the day ahead. My makeup routine is pretty simple. Unless I have anything special planned it usually just entails moisturiser, primer, foundation, setting powder, mascara and lip gloss. Liquid matte lipstick if I’m feeling fancy, lol. My hair is usually pulled back into a messy bun and clothes-wise… well jeans and a blouse usually do the job.
Keo goes for his first walk of the day. If the weather has been dry, there is a lovely little dingle at the top of my road. I tend to take him through there and around the fishing pond so he can say good morning to the ducks. If it’s been raining then he usually just gets a 20-minute walk around the block.
This is where I get my first chance of the day to do anything on my blog. As I only have about 45 minutes I usually write. Most of my posts take between 45–90 minutes to write. Depending on how much research is involved I can usually get a post almost written by the time I have to shut the computer down. If it’s not finished then it will be by the next morning.
I write all my posts in Evernote and have Grammarly installed on my Chrome browser so it checks spelling and grammar as I’m writing which is helpful. Once finished I then transfer into Gutenberg so I can format the post.
My workplace is super close and even on a bad day it only takes me about 10 minutes to get there so I usually start getting ready to leave round about this time.
My going out routine is pretty simple. Lunch goes in my bag. I retrieve my keys and bottle of cold infusion water, this all gets placed by the front door. Then I put the security block in the back door so no one can get in through the french doors. Well, unless they smash a window, obviously. I say goodbye to the dog and give him a small treat — usually, a square of doggy chocolate and then I head out and lock up behind me.
I am usually a little early when I get to work so it gives me a bit of time to get my computer warmed up and check my emails. Once my emails have been checked, I will then complete anything that needs to be finished from the previous day. For example, on a Monday morning I look at what devices went out to each client for the previous week. I create a report and invoice, then I complete the stats report showing which devices were dispatched and if we had any returned under warranty.
At this point, I should probably tell you that I am an Accounts/Sales and Digital Marketing Manager for a phone recycling and refurbishing company called Westfield Ventures. We work very closely with a certified Samsung Repair Centre so our phones are basically new once fully refurbished. After this I will spend a bit of time on the internet sorting out sales via the likes of eBay, Amazon and our own website before doing a little on social media to promote the brand.
There are lots of other little bits to do and it would get pretty boring if I just droned on about work so I’ll leave the rest to your imagination…
I work until 4pm and then I drive home. The first thing I do when I get home from work is let Keo in the garden and put his tea down for him. He has half a can of Chappie each morning and about 80g of Chappie dry food each afternoon. After feeding Keo I then spend about 30 minutes cleaning the house. I clean one room per day so my tasks change depending on what day it is, other than my daily jobs like vacuuming the high traffic areas, etc.
Matt gets in from work so this is usually when I would start preparing our evening meal. We tend to eat a lot of what you would probably call pub grub, so pie and chips, bangers and mash, etc but we also eat a lot of Mexican food like enchiladas and fajitas. I basically don’t plan out what we are having because Matt is a little fussy and constantly changes his mind about what he fancies. Instead I get about 9 days worth of meals when I do the weekly shop and give him his options when he gets in.
Because it’s only the two of us, we tend not to sit at the table to eat unless we have guests. Instead, we sit on the sofa and have one of our favourite programs playing in the background as we discuss our day and eat our meal. Once we have finished eating, I will make another brew and we will sit and watch a programme until it is time to take the dog.
This is where Keo goes for his second walk of the day. The same routine as in the morning but we tend to take him slightly further to give him a longer walk.
When we get back from Keo’s walk, I will put the kettle on to make a brew. While the kettle is boiling I quickly wash up the dishes from the evening meal. I have one of those Dishmatic sponge thingies that dispense washing up liquid as you wash so doing the washing up is super easy and quick. Lastly, once the drinks are made, I will wipe down the side and hob with my best friend Zoflora.
I don’t tend to write on an evening unless I have something in my head that I absolutely need to get down. Instead, I tend to format the posts that are already written, carry out my pre-publish checklist and sort out the images so I can schedule the posts for publishing on the relevant dates.
I block out around an hour for this and then I change my focus to planning my Social Media Campaigns, which I do with Missinglettr because it is an absolute time saver. Once the hour is up I move on to my Instagram scheduling. For this, I use a couple of different apps. I will discuss in a separate post, but the main thing I use is Planoly because it allows me to schedule and view what my feed will look like and also set my posts to auto schedule.
Hey, anything that saves me having to manually remember to post something is a lifesaver to me!
This is Keo’s third and final walk of the day and it is usually just a little bimble around the block. We tend to bump into the lady that lives at the back of us and her two dogs Chloe and Layla. The three of us chat a little while the dogs say hello by doing their usual bum sniffing routine and then we head back home.
This is possibly my favourite time of the day. I can actually just relax and kick back with a hot chocolate or chai latte while me and Matt watch some junk TV. We don’t watch reality TV so usually, we will just stick something on like Always Sunny In Philadelphia or The Mick… just a quick 20–30 minute programme that you don’t have to think about and can follow along easily.
And sleep… Well, not quite. The bedtime routine commences and me and Matt both dance around each other in the bathroom while trying to get ready for bed. As I don’t tend to sleep very well so I use the Sleep Cycle app to track my sleep patterns. I set my alarm for 7:45am but the app wakes me up within 30 minutes of this depending on my sleep cycle so I don’t wake up in full on zombie mode (just half). I’m not a snuggly person in bed. I like my own space but Matt likes a snuggle to help him fall asleep so I tend to spend about 30 minutes snuggled up to Matt until he falls asleep before I can then roll over and catch some Z’s myself.
And there you have it. A very full yet boring day in the life of this part-time lifestyle blogger. Obviously, not every day is the same. Sometimes I have band practice. Other times I have physio and some nights I opt for a little bit more ‘me’ time. So what is your average daily routine like? Do you see any similarities?
